Lookie what Microsoft did

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Either someone at Microsoft thought up the same thing as I did or blatantly stole it. Look at this little bugger.

Pictured are the second and twenty-third DDR Night posters. That’s the first and the very last appearance of the DDR Club’s posters at UMKC. It’s pretty old considering it still has the old DDR Night logo even. Our DDR Night slogan was “We’re Ready; Are You?” I wanted it to be grammatically correct and to read well which is why I was smart enough to use a semicolon unlike Microsoft’s marketing team.

There’s a reason you see a childrens’ hospitals named “children’s” and why Microsoft opted out of my semicolon. It’s because those symbols aren’t used by the grammatically incorrect and since you’re marketing to the everybody, you’ll want anything confusing out of your advertising. Most people don’t know how to used those symbols properly unless they’re making emotions. Either that or those marketing departments are just made up of those people who can’t use those symbols properly. Whatever the reason, I just wanted to say how cool it was to see an idea I thought was cool actually used by the marketing team of one of the biggest companies out there.

Two very awesome changes in Windows 7

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

While I’ve been using Windows 7 since the beta debuted, I really didn’t do much with it until I put it on my netbook earlier this month. There are only two functional changes I’ve noticed in Windows 7 that stuck out to me enough to want to write about them. These are two things I haven’t found talked about anyway online. Besides the actually helpful and extremely informative Help & Support application, the resolution slider and the projector functionality really caught my eye.

Apple Claims PCs are as Expensive as a Mac

Dude, this guy’s on drugs if anyone thinks you NEED an antivirus or that they’re actually useful. They case programs NOT TO WORK! No SHIT they’re expensive too because they’re fucking useless. People don’t know. Guess what? The economics of it all is that NO FUCKING SHIT a $700 PC is worse than a $2800 Mac. You think a $2800 PC would also be shit compared to a Mac? NO! Why? Because it fucking would have a car come free with it at that absurd price. Ya know, you could buy the same laptop and netbook I did 4 times for that price. NO FUCKING ANTIVIRUS, NO FUCKING 3 year SUBSCRIPTION!

The only OS I’d ever want an antivirus software for would be a Mac because I dunno what could get in it or what vulnerabilities there are. At least with WindowsTM Microsoft(R) is open to telling people all the flaws so you know what’s wrong with the OS and that they’re putting out a fix. With a Mac they covered up the thing on their MAIN website saying for people to get an antivirus. Why? Because people make viruses for operating systems they own. More programs/crackers get a Mac, more viruses made for it. What kinda drugs are people on? You’re just calling out to people to hack your OS by saying shit like that.

Netbooks aren’t what you think

Friday, March 6th, 2009

They call it a netbook and tout it as a device which lets you surf the web and type up papers and do simple things on-the-go. No, these are something completely different, and I’ll tell you why all of those words are lies. The thing should be called an appbook or aphonewithaverylargescreenbook because that’s seriously where I’m at right now with this thing.

Thunderbird RSS feeds corrected

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

I just got the first beta to Thunderbird 3 and because of that, I was experimenting with some stuff and doing some cleanup of my RSS feeds. The greatest thing I found out is that you can add multiple feeds to one folder. Now I knew this to a degree, but there are subfolders which, I thought, could only contain one feed. This might be only a change in Thunderbird 3, but it’s quite asounding that all of my feed can be congregated into one group so I only have some 8 or 9 I check but there is a bunch of content contained in each one. Now I can finally expand all the e-mail accounts I have because there won’t be a scroll bar I’ll have to use anymore. Awesome!

Here’s an example. I went from this:

thunderbird_feeds

To this:

thunderbird_feeds2

Why is this such a big deal? I have been trying to limit myself to as few feeds as possible because they take up space in my account area. Well now that I can conglomerate them, then now I have more reason to add a bunch more so long as I’ll be able to devote time to them. YAY!

Chrome is out of beta … WHAT?

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

That was my expression as I read that three times over.

I really can’t believe it. Google actually took an app outta beta. This is a first for my eyes. Google Chrome is now at version one. I will not try it out myself, but I would like to hear of the new features.

Linux – stop holding our kids back

While I’d have to say his reply is rude, demeaning, and so condescending in every word, and it’s not gonna win over anyone. If anything, now that teacher is gonna base all of her perceptions of everything Linux on this one guy who’s being a jerk to her and preach even more to the Microsoft way of life. Laugh it off Mr.

Using Google Chrome

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

The very first thing I noticed was that I couldn’t maximize it for one of my other monitors. Chrome seems only maximize for my main display. That means that if I maximize it on say Monitor 2, then it’ll think that Monitor 2 = Monitor 1, and it’ll look something like this:

Google gone too far? [Update 4]

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

Now that Google has released their Chrome browser, I dunno if I feel safe w/ Google anymore. I think they’re great an’ all and provide some great and awesome free online experiences that help out when I don’t have things installed on my main machine, but they’re going a bit too far. I would’ve rather they pushed Gears into Firefox or made their own FFox variant. Sadly, I just downloaded Google Chrome to check it out. I feel like I’m raping myself here somehow. This is like that time I bought the PSTwo and Apple G4, ugh! What’s next; I start using speed mods? And because WordPress uses it, I finally have hit down and gotten into installing Gears. Great… I’m one of those people that’s making all of this worse!

I realized not too long ago that Google’s stuff is all closed-source. I mean, that’s how they make money, but still, that’s against things that are free and all. I dunno what’s all going on behind Google’s closed doors, but they could even be set to take over the world! I’m not joking at all. Conspiracy could very well be at hand here, and I hope our government sees fit to make sure to keep Google in their own place.

Router Funtastico

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Nick and I have been hard at work fixing up my home network so it’s anything and everything of what I want. We’re still having a few issues like getting Samba to play nice w/ Hamachi, but that shouldn’t be too hard. We’re getting a ton of people attempting to SSH to the router so we’re gonna change the port it listens on.

Today’s Fun

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Katie and I went to Lawrence. I went and visited Sarah there and helped her out w/ her laptop. There was only one thing I couldn’t fix, and it seems to completely be a software bug w/ Microsoft. Thank you Microsoft for having issues with your own media player on your own operating system. Closed source for the lose!

Facebook FTL

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I opened up my Facebook again because I am helping a guy bug-test the Windows version of his Facebook chat plugin for Pidgin as well as the Skype one. So I was telling Abby that this would be a great time to show her old Facebook messages and stuff, but I didn’t know it would be so hard to read all of this stuff. I know I was pretty stupid, but it’s so painful to read all of that. I just didn’t know. Worse yet, I’m pretty sure I still have the same tenancies today, but I’m just unaware of them. At least I’m learning a lot about myself and my forgotten past. It was also strange having to delete over 300 former Facebook friends. That incident in December of 2006 really changed me. I can’t say I’m the same person now as I was then. There was just so much that changed from May 2006 following up to December and into February up until March 2007 where I basically lost all touch with who I was and took measures to get over my traumatic past.

It is now the present day. Going back and looking at things over two years old, it’s strange to see how a lot of things could have been prevented if I wasn’t such a softie and if I had learned to be calm and no to off of the walls excited. It’s still very tough to believe that most of this happened because of one girl. At least I’m finally able to confront my past. A lot has happened since then, and I’m a lot stronger because of it. I only hope that I don’t make the same mistakes again.

Ah. On one final note, I’m glad I’m so picky about who I make friends with or who I choose to talk to these days. If I hadn’t gotten this way, there’s a good chance I could’ve wound up in the wrong crowd again. What might seem pompous, with good intentions, leads to a life of bliss. Experience has taught me that.

P.S. I’m going to see Abby for a week in the beginning of June. I’m pretty darn happy about that. That makes it so I have gotten to see her in March, April, May, and June. And then December and August as well. Freakin’ awesome!

Pwnt’d? – hardware tech site, not tabloid!

Guess what I found? An article on DRM-free music selling like mad, oh wait, Warner and Sony are finally following EMI and Universal on the DRM-free music? Wow… Looks like someone finally got the picture.

No wait, it gets even better!
