Anime I will never finish

Monday, July 12th, 2010

For various reasons, anime I’ve come in contact with were either too hard to find the rest of the episodes for or they just plain sucked. There are a lot of anime that are just too long to me and I felt like what I saw was enough, those are included in this list. Here’s the final take of anime I will never be finishing. Hopefully I’ll never have to add to this list again. Goodbye to these shows and good riddens to the worst of them.

The anime wasn’t that good. It had good points but seemed to be cookie-cutter for what it was. I mean, it wasn’t completely out of what I wanted to watch, but it definitely didn’t fill in the blanks. What it did do was have a lot of areas where people were talking in the midst of battle, have scenes where things are happening very closely and then suddenly in the next scene the thing is far away again like a sword coming to hit someone is somehow further away from hitting the person in the next scene.

Unlike some of the rarities of good anime out there, people don’t realistically die in this one. They had their characters and kept them as long as they could. Some of the sad stories didn’t seem fulfilling enough as they were explained far too late in the game and then finished off a few episodes later rather than after some due time had passed.

Apart from not completing the storyline, what I didn’t like was that there were fillers here and there which could’ve been used to better the storyline. Repeated animations weren’t so rampant and, of course, differing design of monsters was pretty pertinent so I do appreciate that. I wish they’d let people figure out things more on their own rather than force-feeding them through interactions, camera shots, or spoken word.

What is Karasumoi? Who is the current owner? Why wasn’t there a sequel series to this show or even some OVAs? Some of the characters in the school were just let go it seems like and not fully-realized. Then also, what about the youngest brother, what of the abilities of the older people? Just a lot of stuff didn’t quite go through well as they rushed the show to the end. The best they could’ve done is at least not spent 2-3 episodes to sit through a battle. It felt like a DBZ-style constipation fest because of it.

Detroit Metal City completed

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I think it’s because I was able to really associate myself with the main character that I was able to be so into this show. Because of all the situational irony, I was really unable to watch this show, but I finally got into watching it all the way through and was quite happy with myself. I really got to liking Krauser II and all his inane acts of malice; I only wish the show had more of an ending of sorts because it just kind of ended but didn’t build on the relationship with that girl or him realizing what he was really doing being the third emperor of death metal.

This was pretty neat. It’s in the same universe as other favorites of mine like the Galaxy Railways series. Whoever makes these shows always does a fantastic job with the music, but I could tell this show, overall, was lower-budget. I almost felt like I was watching the Planet of the Apes catroon by the way some of the animation played out. Usually, an anime like this would be twice as long and the death scenes would definitely make you cry, not just kinda be like “oh, he died”. I believe all of these types of anime have to do with death, destiny, and endless struggles. In the end of this one, the main antagonist didn’t even die so I’m pretty miffed at what happened there.

Basquash! completed

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Since I’ve already posted quite a bit about this one already, I’ll just say it ended pretty uneventfully. It’s a lot of high energy though, but there wasn’t quite enough in explanation and the end of it was, like most Japanese shows, lacking in closure.

Darker than BLACK II: Gemini of the Meteor completed

WHAT HAPPENED? No really, what just happened? The girl was kinda on the moon or something living a strange life without her brother, but was her life up there created by her brother? Was it even the same girl? Her and July died so I dunno. This show had a pretty sad ending, but I just didn’t feel it so much. The main character lost her memories and then died. It was extremely sad. I couldn’t move during the entire time. I kept sitting there watching her existence fade away and just sat in the chair wondering what was going on and how I was going to deal with it. Apparently I’m currently in a highly-emotionless state of mind because it did nothing. Having the rest of the show just blah to the end was enough to make me have no reason to care.

Astro Fighter Sunred not over?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Apparently Astro Fighter Sunred isn’t done. I’ve seen 6 more episodes in the last few days. Guess I get to watch more of this fun stuff. It still amazes me how this show has nothing to do with Power Rangers style super hero action. It’s kind of like watching a show about everyday daily life along with a group of people supposedly part of an evil organization who are trying, but failing, to kill a jobless man living off of the expenses of his girlfriend. The guy is supposed to be a super hero, but he’s a jerk and actually shows he has a conscience. A lot of his character is depicted as the bad kid on the block, the bully. It’s pretty funny.

CANAAN completed

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I guess I finished it yesterday. The show really doesn’t have a concrete ending so maybe there will be a second season. This is yet another anime in a long line of them that has very wish-wash endings. At least this one made sense ending with two friends who can never see each other again.

Anime completion postings

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I really don’t know why I continue to do these. I always write out lengthy write-ups after each show I finish for the most part, but I detest doing them and really have nothing much I’d like to say. If only for historical purposes, it still seems like a waste.

I watched Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Big Battle yesterday and it made me want to go and watch the 52 episode series from 1983. Other than that, I have nothing to say. Gosh, if not for the fact that I had been doing it, I really would no longer continue these write-ups. I only hope I have some readers that benefit from my annoyances.

Basquash is surprisingly good

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Besides this obsession with sex and boobs for the first few episodes, the anime quickly got its act together and started really selling me on the story and the design. I mean, this has a very delicate story even, something I couldn’t imagined from when I began watching it. Really, I’ve become entranced by the anime yet, I’ve reached the end of what’s on TV in Japan. I guess I’ll just have to wait it out for now.

I have a feeling that this anime will end up being something like 26 episodes. At the end of episode 18, I think I’m right, the development will move toward finishing the love story and father/daughter relationship storylines. My assumption is that Rouge forgot who Dan is and since she’s undergoing this treatment, she might end up dying at the end of the match. I don’t know how much of this is going to make sense, but it’s extremely sad to see happen. Then Sela is gonna finally find out her father didn’t kick her mother out and that there was a lot of other stuff going on she was never told just yet.

Bakemonogatari gives up yet another familiar situation

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

While it was drawn out for a much longer period of time, this is a very very familiar conversation I just experienced. Interesting to watch it done by two completely different people. It makes me want to have serious conversations like this again in my life. One of the perks of causing trouble for myself I guess.

“Oh well. I may be over exaggerating it. To put it bluntly, I enjoy talking to you.”
“But we haven’t even talked that much, have we?”
“I guess. So I want to talk with you more. How do I say it… I don’t know if it’s like I’m just trying to make myself like you.”
“I see”
“I don’t mind if you think about it like this. Unluckily, you were fallen for by a crazy virgin so starved for love that she’d fall for anyone who showed a little kindness.”
“I see.”
“Luck wasn’t on your side because of your behavior. If you tell me you want to think about it like a coward, I’m gonna despise you. You shouldn’t make women feel embarrassed.
“I get it, I just don’t really quite accept it at the moment. But, I can I set a condition too? A condition, more like a promise. Don’t ever pretend you can see something you can’t, or that you can’t see something you can. If our viewpoints are inconsistent, let’s talk it over. Promise me.”
“Certainly.”

Bakemonogatari began

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Awwww. This anime is so charming! I really like it and the way it plays out so far since it’s reminiscent of my own times. It’s odd to be on the outside for once looking in at something I already know. By the point in time it makes me wonder how dumb I could’ve been to not see the signs at the time. I guess I partly saw some signs, signs of nothing serious though. Gosh, this drama is played out so well because the girl in it is so incredibly funny. I want to experience a situation like this again because of how fun it is. Seriously, I could do this all day! In fact, I used to do it everyday even into the night. It’s just crazy; one of those games you can only play maybe once or twice in your life.

Escaflowne the Movie completed

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I was extremely surprised when I saw this movie Thursday morning. The story was the same for the most part but the development moved along much faster than I expected including the love parts. I tended to get along with the characters better in this movie, but didn’t like how Allen wasn’t radiating as much as before. And Princess Millena was just someone completely different. Had I not seen the original TV show, I don’t think the movie would’ve been worth as much to be, but I still think the movie was worth watching.

If anything, comparing to the AIR movie which I refuse to acknowledge having seen, even if only in parts, this movie was awesome. They changed the European themes into Asian ones but had this very American love story going on there where even if the characters only knew each other for an extremely short period of time, love can flourish. Although differing from the series, this movie was worth my time watching. I could almost say it was quaint in relation to the series as a whole if one had that knowledge.

Nodame Cantabile completed

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The main character reminds me of me, such a jerk. He says things as they are, and he’s always right. I wouldn’t say I’m right, but he sure tells things as they are with a complete disregard to the feelings of others. This is a shortcoming of mine I’ve been working on for almost a year now. I just wrote a blog post about it a few days ago even.
