Trine beaten

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

I can’t wait to play this game multiplayer with someone and hopefully find all the stuff I’m missing. The game was extremely fun and is yet another Frozenbyte must-have. I kind of wish I had a new Frozenbyte game to play. After playing through the newly released level in the newest patch, the end said this is just the beginning. I’m assuming there are more Trine-related games on the way. I can’t wait!

A list of things every PC game needs

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Since I firmly believe PC game developers don’t get it, here’s a list of things every single PC game needs to have as a requirement. I hope to put this in some kind of formal document every PC game needs as a set of guidelines to follow or as a gate-keeping service a company uses to determine if a game is ready to be sold or not. I’m sure most corporate execs and business owners would be primed if I told them there’s a larger market their games could be sold to–Intel graphics chips–but their developers didn’t seem to put this in for whatever reason. It could’ve been the other way around that a publisher said the game had to be released on PC after its console debut leaving much of the customization out of the picture. There’s no real reason to release a game on PC lacking any of these features especially one made in the last couple years.

Red Faction: Guerrilla completed

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Finally! Took me a while, but I beat it. I had a lot of other stuff I could do it the game, but it got boring after a while sadly. I wish there was more changing stuff like the beginning of the game. The fact that you could only hold 4 weapons and one was forced to be your hammar was a side-effect of the game being originally made for console and while it balanced it some, it really didn’t make it so fun when there’s 100 EDF, your friends suck and can’t kill a anything but themselves, and you keep running out of ammo and have no really good guns to deal with anything. If I could just use all the weaponry I worked so hard to purchase, I think the game would’ve been superb.

The game was great in many aspects though. Gameplay was awesome and something unseen. I can understand why you couldn’t terraform in here, but thought the developers could’ve found a way around that at least. There weren’t enough things in the game to make you feel like a badass, like you could do something. There used to be a moral multiplier which never made it into production, and it always said times one. Should it have said more, I figure the original design was to have an army at your side of Red Faction members helping you out. I can easily say, had that been the case, I would’ve definitely enjoyed this game WAY more. Casual mode definitely is still a bit too hard and I played on normal for most of it before feeling like my 7th or 8th time through a mission was getting far too annoying. There were even two mission types I tried many many times and just kept failing so I just chose not to do them anymore. If that’s what I’m doing, there’s some clear oversight on the part of the developers.

The story, if it was more like the end of the game, would’ve been better from the beginning. There just nearly wasn’t enough development and the explanations of things were so subtle they were non-existent. What was the whole thing about people talking about Parker early on? Why was a town named Parker? How in the world was that girl a Marauder? Where did those people come from when they said the planet is rightfully theirs? Where’d they get their technology from? A LOT of EDF soldiers died. I can’t imagine that not one of them joined the side of the Red Faction. So many other things like more information about what was going on with Earth, how long the Hydra took the build and what effect you really had after completing missing was doing. Like, you’d do a mission which would cut off all EDF supplies on Mars and next thing you know they’re bringing out tanks and provide you with unlocked mechs. Clearly something’s wrong there.

I hope they make another game, keep it as fun as this one was, and really elaborate on a ton of stuff. Lastly, I heard there was an ostrich hammer in here. I bought the game to use it, where is it hmm? Developers, I hear you crying!

Machinarium completed

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Charming yet frustrating at times. I felt like I wanted to use some better form of control during the game which could help me out. It has the same artwork as a game like Professor Layton, but a lot more choice in music, some fun charming parts with your character, and a neat bit in the story you probably didn’t imagine going into it.

My favorite part of Machinarium was the artwork. The mini-games or story elements most point-n-click have where you need an item or two and that does this and that does this and this character does this to get this is not appealing to me in the least, but I used to play games like those all the time as a kid and it was interesting to play one more setup for an adult mind.

The help area was really helpful, and it was challenging to unlock the walkthrough. I’d say it’s best to keep it unlocked at least if you did it. I wanted to see what it was like to get the walkthrough and it helped me out in a part I thought I had to do more in. Turns out, I was trying to do more in the game that I was supposed to which would be a problem the developers have to deal with and only occurred in the jail at the very beginning of the game.

I wish there was some extra to the end and a way to make sure I saw all the thoughts my character had of his past since some of them just happened without any event triggering them.

For the $10 I paid, I’d say the game was worth playing, but I’d even say it’s $7-8. I paid the same $10 for Zeno Clash, enjoyed it a lot more and spent less time being frustrated since it was my skill which held me back, not problematic design. I still think it was a fantastic game and a must-see, but I’ve thought from the beginning that it was priced far too high at the usual $20 and would be a total letdown for those individuals. I’m assuming my pricing is biased considering I do not like the point-n-click schema enough to be attracted to those games anymore.

P.S. I wish I knew how to pronounce the name of the game properly.

DDR again?

Monday, May 25th, 2009

I SUCK! I’m soooo freakin’ bad. What happened? Ha ha ha. I need my cheer crowd and girl back it seems, ah ha ha ha. Oh man those days where I was in my prime are over, but I’ll get back into the game somehow that’s for sure. I need to get back in shape and just move around a bit more. My reading skill is just terrible now too! I was having problems reading songs I’ve passed at least 8 or 9 times before. I’m actually gonna try putting a song in 2x to see how I do. This is sad, but if I can get back to where I was, I might try slowing songs down to 80% or 90% or their main speed so I can get back into reading notes proplerly.

I will never drop my old 1x/Vivid play-style just because my talent went down the drain over the last year, no. This is my time to shine. I need to finally get back into doing things the way I wanted to do them. I need to work back up to passing 10s, then 11s, all the way up to where I was at physically with 13s, and I’ll pass some of those too if I can do it. Working out at night might help, but I need some kinda partner or drive to work out. I had one before, I had a drive to get better at this game, now I just need to find another.

Ok, I can’t even read it on 2x, ha ha. Good for me.

Assassin’s Creed beaten

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

It’s been an eventful week. Two anime finished, two games beaten. I wonder what else is in store for me.

This game was very repetitive after the 4th or 5th level and while I did enjoy screwing around with the enemies for most of it, I could’ve easily done without. Past that though, the same’s story was quite the ringer. I really enjoyed trying to figure out what all was going on and didn’t seem to be wrong about who’s who in this; although, I did have my doubts. This was one of those games where you didn’t just blindly do things, you actually had to think about your actions. Think of playing Mario and wondering if you should really go and save the princess. Crazy huh? After finishing this one, I really can’t wait for the sequel hopefully set to release this year.

Prince of Persia beaten

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Finally yes, after the 10-20 minutes of credits, it’s over. Finally. I enjoyed it. It was a quick-to-play game, but really, some of it was tedious and boring, but only some. The challenge and the way they designed the game was great. I don’t have much to say about it. I’m peeved the Epilogue costs $10, but I’m gonna YouTube it. I’m just really happy about how the game ended. It feel complete.

Braid is my life

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

You might’ve thought me a crazy person if you hadn’t played Braid yet, but hear me out, I just played it now. The resemblance to my own stories and episodes on this blog was more than surprising. It is as if I was being watched, but it’s not just me, it is the common human being.

Quoted from the game:

This improvement, day by day, takes him ever-closer to finding the Princess. If she exists–she must!–she will transform him, and everyone.

Before I behind, the comma after “transform him” shouldn’t be there, but that’s how it is in the game. Makes me cringe! What I wanted to say is, doesn’t that sound like my blog since I’ve been single this past year? Sitting there improving myself, learning how to communicate, learning from my mistakes. Trying to reward myself for being educated rather than punishing my past mistakes. This is Braid. Kinda nice to see this, but I am now almost hoping the end of the game is as defunct of the princess as the rest of the game. Why? Because I have not yet hit the point in my life where, keeping in the metaphor of the game, I’ve found my princess, or second princess, or gotten my princess back. It feels weird to complete that when I’m not even there yet correct?

Zeno Clash bought

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

19 some days till this game is released. I purchased it back on March 18th or 19th when it went on sale for day one at 50% off. Check out these pictures. Might help reveal some on the storyline. More info at http://www.zenoclash.com/. For $10, it’s like I just stole this marvel of an indi game.

I did it I did it! Two games down [Update]

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I’m about 8 hours late on this post. Forgot to hit “Publish”…

Finally beat two games I’d been meaning to for months but work combined with poor drivers from ATi and some sort of Windows Audio service issue because of some driver conflict with the Creative X-Fi (thanks Creative… You suck) and ASUS Xonar D2X stopped me from even being able to play games much at all.

I just finished Mass Effect and am letting the credits roll. NOW I’m excited for the sequel, kinda. Seems like it’ll be pretty boring much as Mass Effect became not more than 4 hours in. Half-Life 2: Episode One was the other game I finished. That was a lot more fun but very linear as is Valve’s style where they hold your hand throughout the game and very vague storyline. Thing about Half-Life 2 though is that it’s fun. It’s never gotten old to watch those amazing Havok ragdoll physics and use all the guns in the game in various ways. I think this is why I’ve been so kept in Valve’s camp this entire time; they just make fun games.

I know I still have a crapload more to beat, but hopefully when the new video drivers are released, I can finish up some other ones like Crysis Warhead and Assassin’s Creed which are crashtacular at the moment. I’ll be so happy to start finishing up games again. this is awesome!

[Update]

Apparently Crysis Warhead had an issue because of a bug in the software which ONLY happens if you save during this one stage. It was because of a patch in February, and get this, the ONE place I chose to save happened to the be the one place that bugs up the game. Great…

DDR Pad boxes

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

As anyone who reads this blog should know, I was well into the DDR scene on and off for 3 years and really into it for the last 3 years. It was October 2002 when I first got a pair of pads and the Hawaiian DDR game for PC.

Now I’ve just looking around and need to move these boxes outta here for space reasons. It’s not crucial at all, I just wanna do some cleaning and cleaning means getting rid things that have no use. And in this case, the nostalgia from a bunch of DDR pad boxes is kind of unruley to areas dedicated to space. I took this opportunity to take a picture of what’s left of my collection. 12 have already gone to the trash over the years because of traveling reasons or because they fell apart, but here’s the last 13. Enjoy!

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Can I just say it? The main character is a pissy poo. Seriously, he needs to grow up. Luckily, someone once told me to appreciate that kinda stuff in characters, but Xenogears or not, I’m not always looking forward to a rehash. At least it’s more believable this sad. This is one of those times I dislike being wrong, ha ha ha. Either way, I’m kinda past most of that stuff in the game, but we’ll see if he’s still gonna be a pansy for the rest of the game. It gets kind of annoying to see myself in a game sometimes especially w/ him apologizing all the time. It’s like “I get it okay? I know it’s wrong geez”.

Farsi in Prince of Persia?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The strange language the girl speaks when casting spell is, in fact, Farsi. I confirmed it last night when here w/ my sister. We were both quite stunned. It’s also evident that that voice actress speaking Farsi is also not the one speaking English, ha ha ha. I would almost want the entire game to be in Farsi now w/ subtitles because that’s how movies are in Iran.

Lemme explain. In Iran, they want pretty faces on the screen, but they’re not always the best actors. So they have someone else actually speaking into the mic. Strange huh? That’s just the way their old films are. So doing that kinda acting for Prince of Persia would technically be the same thing. Kinda neat to think about.

New games asunder!

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Althought I got it for a lot cheaper, the newest game I bought is Pinky Street: Kira Kira * Music Hour from Dimple Entertainment. I’ve been sorta after the first game in the series for about a year now which is Pinky Street: Kira Kira * Music Night.

Another game I’m currently bidding on is Contact by Suda51 and I’m trying to also trying to get hooked up with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap because I really really wanna get my Zelda fix. I think I’m such smart gamers these days that I can play that game no problem. Not as smart as I have been, but I think I can suffice with my limited knowledge.

Now things are starting to make sense. Out of the roughly eight chapters, I’m about done with the second.
