Tetsuwan Birdy & Tetsuwan Birdy DECODE completed

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

It was neat to watch both of these one after another because they seemed like two different shows. It was like watching various Tenchi Muyo! shows in a way. I would really say this is more like Kiddy Grade in the way the characters look but the animation was like Kure-nai. Very flowing and crazy.

Awww, kids are so cute! ^_^

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I seem to be able to enjoy spending time w/ kids. Not very long, but just enough to know it can be fun. I guess it’s an age thing though. Once kids learn language, my ability to communicate with them and humor them is intensified. It’s also a lot easier to tell them what to do and not to do. I wonder if at some point I can train kids to bring stuff to me like slaves < - joking!

Ergo Proxy completed

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I finished this yesterday and forgot to write-up something. This one goes in my list of top five anime if I had one. Amazing story, amazingly well done animation for the most part. I’d have to say the first episode is was got me. From there, the budget for animation went down, but everything was really nice. There was even a deus ex machina.

The entire anime was based on philosophical and historical concepts. If you know your stuff, you’d really understand this better than I did. There was only a few things I knew about like the bookstore and the poem Howl. Other than that, I knew some of the Aristotle things, the Smile Land or whatever that place was being a metaphor for Disney’s theme parks, and one of the Plato things. Most of the anime was very educational for me because of the notes at the end of each episode requiring them. Oh yeah, I knew about the Italian improvised plays and such. I’m sure there’s more in there that I knew but had forgotten over time as I haven’t been studying those subjects in school. Countless references are noted. Anyone looking for something that is freakin’ crazy good, go for Ergo Proxy. The story is also very mysterious and has a romantic aspect to it that isn’t fully realized in the end. That also fits in with the show too so it’s not like it was a bad thing.

Tales of Phantasia – The Animation completed

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

This probably came out around the time the GBA version of the game was released. They REALLY compressed the storyline in this one, but to someone who played the SNES version of the game through, I’d have to say they did a fairly good job, but it could’ve been a bit more developed. I think six episodes would’ve been far more sufficient.

What was really neat was seeing how pompous the elves were. That was nice. And then at the end, you see Dhaos, and it made a bit more sense I’d say, but that’s probably because it’s been so long since I’ve played the game, and I essentially got the story for the second time. It’s a really good story though. It’s one of those where you have to think for a minute and realize that you might not actually be the good guys for once, you’re the bad guys and the good guys are the ones you’re killing. So for the first time, good isn’t triumphing over evil, but you can say that good didn’t do all good. It’s complicated. That’s why, even though you have to get rid of Dhaos, it’s a tough choice to make.

009-1 completed

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I originally thought this would be a 60s spy movie where you gotta see someone take on these cool 007-like expeditions with lots of action and hard-to-get-out-of situations. What I got was something more. It was a 12 episode series with a lot of character and a really neat feel. I enjoyed the music and art style as they both fit into this classic 60s atmosphere where the cold war was still going on yet people were living on the moon. So it was obviously done in the future as if it was still the 60s. Probably the biggest catch out of all of this was how well they captured the atmosphere of freedom and of being a spy. They showed that while one side had a bit more freedom, that wasn’t allocated to everyone. This sort of freedom people sought to preserve was the very same freedom that almost didn’t exist since both sides with still one in the same. I finished MONSTER recently and keep getting that East/West Germany feel the entire time.

This anime’s a good watch if you like spy films and the like. It’s not really a deep moving storyline and anything for kids, but it takes a new feel some something old. It’s the Casino Royal of Japanese spy shows.

Old anime finally finishing?

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

From a list in a blog post on November 15th 2006, I will elaborate on what’s happened to each of these anime and post up a new list of anime I am currently watching. While I haven’t done it yet, I’m half way through the second to last episode of FLAG so I’ll be finishing up that one pretty soon here.

Change in the diet

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

My diet recently has been bread, dairy products, and tomato sauce. That’s it; I swear. That’s all I’ve eaten in the last four days. I dunno how I’m surviving, but sooner or later I’ll need meat. Gotta get those proteins from somewhere I suppose. Well I guess I have eggs sometimes, that’s good. So that’s my diet there! :) Enjoy seeing how healthy I am no? There’s one more thing I forgot, Pop Tarts! I have been eating Cinnamon Roll Pop Tarts, well… more bread I guess.

MONSTER completed

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

I finished the anime MONSTER finally after all of these years. I watched an episode with Mark the summer before I went to college sometime in 2005, and we both fell asleep on the couch watching the fourth episode or so. Then I decided to give it another chance when I was living in the dorms and watched it with my roommate Ben. He explained to me all the Bible references in there and then the whole thing made sense. The entire story really changed a lot and no longer was it this boring random anime, it was something that really made sense and had such epic proportions. We watched 37 episodes of it, but stopped for some reason. I probably just stopped watching anime altogether because I remember him asking to watch it a lot. Probably issues with something making me depressed.

This show is not something to be watched when you’re depressed. It’s probably one of the best and most well-thought-out anime I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen a lot of good ones, and while I don’t really take this one to heart, it is steller. I think I just don’t like the horrifying aspect of it and how I never know what’s going to happen and what decisions people are going to make. They did a great job giving you the story in the intervals they did. You constantly sit there and think about it over and over again trying to figure it all out. It goes into concepts of the human consciousness no normal person would understand because of the experiments done on the people in there. They did an amazing job of depicting that though. I have to say that I was surprised at every instance and think it best to tell more people about it. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s 74 episodes, I would have finished it sooner, but probably not understood the true meaning of it. I’m just glad I finally got to finish this true masterpiece, a work of art.

Singing in harmony

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I forgot to say this, but when I was in Iowa on Tuesday, there was a fire drill and Scott, and I did something I’d always wanted to do w/ someone, we sang a chord with the fire alarm note, ha ha ha. I would’ve pushed it further and tried to do some on-spot jamming, but there was a bunch of people around so I didn’t bother.

Kure-nai completed

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

So I finished Kure-nai. I bet you’ve not seen me type that kind of sentence before right? It was really good. It had nice artwork and a very small storyline. It seems that they took a very small thing and made it big, and I like how they did it. Everything was realistic and well-placed in how events would happen. It didn’t make you think “well that’s because the good guys always win”. No, it was better than that. That doesn’t tell of the ending, just puts the show into a bit of perspective.

I would have to say that I fully enjoyed it. It’s not the best or something that really made me have to see each episode one after another, but it was really good still. I really didn’t see any flaws except maybe some language and culture issues I wish they would’ve panned out more because I didn’t get them. Otherwise, there were a lot of things I wanted to quote and keep forever. It was a very adult way of looking at life.

You know you’re getting old

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Yeah, I’m getting old. Cereal is a dessert to me. What in the world! I mean, I like it for breakfast, but having milk and cereal is also a dessert. I can have it after dinner and feel fine. It’s almost like eating candy for me. But I’ve noticed my aging a few years back when apples became far too sugary. Some said I became used to artificial sugars and that natural sugars were too much for me. I don’t think that’s it. I’m thinking it was more that I’m just aging and my tastes are becoming more sensitive to sugar. It’s like my high school chem professor said, when making Kool-Aid, put a lot of sugar in for kids and only a little bit in for adults.

Thus, once cereal becomes a dessert for you (Nick, I’m looking at you), you know you’re getting old.

Bastard! Destroyer of Darkness completed again

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I dunno what happened, but I had already finished this one. No wonder episode 6 seems so familiar. So I did watch it all the way though. This one’s amazingly involved for being so old and only six episodes. This ending actually has some of the most memorable parts of the show that I remember. Not just that, I always see things and it reminds me of this episode of anime. Awesome stuff! There was a tentacle monster as well. Classic old skool anime.

This one has two spellings. One is Bastard!! for Japanese and Bastard! for English. I didn’t know that! Someone helped me out with it too because I was having issues playing the file, but CCCP really is the best for this kind of stuff.

I also started a new anime, Kure-nai.

Peace Maker Kurogane [Update]

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I guess it was okay. I didn’t really think it was amazing and started getting really bored nearer to the end. It had a few cool parts but seemed really underdeveloped and the ending– It just all needed an episode or two more. It seems like there was a bunch of the story left out. Maybe there was a movie I missed or something. Either way, it was fun and enjoyable, but didn’t keep grabbing my attention. It reminded me of Bleach but with way less funny. It also dealt w/ the idea of death quite a bit. Lots and lots and lots about death and how killing people affects people. I thought that was cool, but meh at the anime overall.

[Update]

I still can’t believe I actually finished this one. What happened! Something had to have gone wrong. I can’t even remember the ending right now. I really did just cut out story elements. I must’ve skipped half of the series or something. What the heck.

Avenger completed

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Yeah, this one wasn’t that good. No wonder I never finished it before. I guess I was most attracted to the story which isn’t very good. It’s just really slowly played out and with little words said. This could very easily have been made into a great movie. Oh well, I watched and finished it anyway finally. Always wanted to figure out what would happen.

Well I guess it was more worth it to watch this than Good Witch of the West which also seems like an average anime. For me to watch something only average, it has to be worth it to me for some reason. This one I liked the most bc of the music actually. I kept hearing the opening and ending themes play a lot and just wanted to finally see what they were about. YAY~! Finally get to see the one part I was never shown since the beginning (unmasking). Wow! I should also note it was a low-budget thing, and I think they did extremely well under those circumstances.

I have a temp job! [Update]

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

So I got a temp job that’ll last me 2-4 weeks of 8-5 working. I’ll see what I can do! It’s all database entry stuff, but pays $11/hr so it’ll be the most I’ve ever made per hour so far and will be nice to add to the ol’ resume.

[Update]

The company had some internal candidates for the job so I didn’t end up getting it :( . Oh well.
